2022 Update
Aloha!
My name is Hailey Grace and I am currently in my second year of college at KCC fulfilling the last of my prerequisite courses, awaiting my letter that will notify me if I got into the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program.
My first year went pretty smoothly, I would say. I got to learn more about my Hawaiian culture, relearn some algebra that I forgot from high school and learn about many microorganisms and diseases (lots of biology and chemistry, essentially). I am currently underway to learn about blood and will eventually have to draw blood from a fellow classmate (scary!) but I am ready to take this on so I can save lives with the right tools and knowledge later on.
None of this would be possible without Paubox! As a 2021 recipient of the Paubox Kahikina Scholarship, I am able to enrich myself with knowledge not only allocated towards my scientific studies, but cultural studies. I am able to connect with other Native Hawaiian students as well. This community has been so welcoming and uplifting, making me more eager to further my education and (hopefully) one day become a medical laboratory scientist.
Cheers!
